Pietro Cascella: sculpture, set design and the memory of the theatre
exhibition curated by Valeria Pardini
The Giacomo Puccini Park of Music and Sculpture in Torre del Lago is hosting the exhibition ‘... a riveder le stelle’, a project that combines contemporary art, theatrical heritage and the natural landscape, dedicated to the master Pietro Cascella (1921–2008). The exhibition presents, in a renewed dialogue with nature and the park’s architecture, the sculptures created for the 2004 Turandot stage design, reinstalled after years of absence from the Puccini Festival’s open-air theatre.
Pietro Cascella was one of the greatest Italian sculptors of the second half of the 20th century, an exponent of an artistic vision that draws on archetypes and essential forms. His works, often monumental, speak a language that is both primordial and thoroughly modern, where stone, bronze and concrete become vehicles for a collective memory that transcends time. His artistic exploration has always oscillated between monumentality and spirituality, between geometric rigour and symbolic tension: an art capable of engaging with history, the urban environment and nature.
