The Puccini Festival pays tribute to Pier Paolo Pasolini, writer, poet, director, screenwriter, playwright and journalist, in the year in which the centenary of the birth of one of the greatest Italian intellectuals of the 1970s is celebrated.
A tribute paid through the initiative, “La meglio Gioventù”, two evenings of unpublished music – which takes its title from the collection of poems dedicated to young people that Pasolini published in 1954 and which inspired the four new compositions entrusted to the musicians Marcello Filotei, Salvatore Frega, Andrea Manzoli and Roberta Vacca, which will be premiered on 2 and 3 August under the direction of Maestro Fabio Maestri.
The two evenings, in collaboration with the Dante Alighieri Society, will be streamed worldwide through the Dante offices. The initiative enjoys the support of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers – Mission Structure for the enhancement of national anniversaries and the participatory dimension of the new generations.
The Composers
Salvatore Frega
In him and in his music there is a synaesthesia between sounds and colours, experienced from Goethe onwards but really deepened by the composer. Frega’s new path seems to lead to original, almost unique results, based not on an impressionistic juxtaposition but on a precise planning”. (Renzo Cresti)
Marcello Filotei
enjoys mood swings. Making the most of his moments of optimism, he graduated in piano, composition and electronic music from the Santa Cecilia Conservatory in Rome. The rest of the time he puts into music what he cannot express otherwise.
