THE PUCCINIANO FESTIVAL FOUNDATION

The Fondazione Festival Pucciniano is a private-law institution founded by the Municipality of Viareggio in 1990, whose main aims are to organise the Puccini Festival in Torre del Lago, to stage operas, to promote music among young people, and to produce performances and tours.

The Foundation was granted legal personality by Decree No. 207 of the Regional Council of Tuscany, dated 25 June 1991.

The Fondazione Festival Pucciniano is a non-profit organisation. It promotes musical activities by creating the conditions necessary for the preservation, promotion, understanding and dissemination of Giacomo Puccini’s artistic legacy, as well as the environment and places where the maestro lived and composed his works.

In particular, the Foundation plans, organises and carries out:

  • the Puccini Festival, an opera festival that focuses specifically on the artistic output of Giacomo Puccini;
  • opera performances, ballets, concerts, plays;
  • music competitions and festivals;
  • introductory and advanced vocational training courses;
  • literary, musical and musicological research and studies;
  • academic conferences and publications in print, on record and in audiovisual formats, aimed at promoting Puccini’s works, particularly in relation to developments in musical production.

The Foundation researches, studies, collects and organises materials and artefacts relating to opera and music in general—and Puccini’s operas in particular, including stage sets—for exhibition and museum display; it also manages theatres built either independently or in collaboration with any public or private body for the purpose of achieving its objectives.
