Tosca is undoubtedly Puccini’s most dramatic opera, cruelty and sadism provide the backdrop for the story of love and death set in Rome in the 1800s.
At the Puccini Festival 2022 it will be presented in a production by Pier Luigi Pizzi, with Enrico Calesso on the podium of the Puccini Festival Orchestra.
Pizzi, who also designed the sets and costumes, makes a temporal shift from the Rome of the Napoleonic era to the Italy of the late 1930s.
“I exploited the political tensions and the arrogance of power of this historical moment.”
